In a letter sent by then Attorney General of the United States Jeff Sessions to president Trump, Sessions said:

"At your request, I am submitting my resignation”.

Sessions, a former US senator for Alabama was one of Trump’s earliest supporters as a presidential candidate, but almost immediately ran into controversy in the new administration.

According to theguardian Trump's decision to fire Sessions came immediately after revelations surfaced that Sessions held two undisclosed meetings with Russia’s then ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak, the previous year.

When asked under oath during his Senate confirmation hearing back in 2017, Sessions refused to disclose details about the Russian meetings.
